Can I purchase and register a domain name through CopperHosting?
Yes - you can purchase a domain name during the sign up process. The cost is $12.50 a year.
Are there any setup fees?
There are NO setup fees for any of our accounts.
How will my credit card be billed?
The credit card on file through your Copper.net dial-up account will be billed at the time of registration.
Then the credit card will be billed monthly if you sign up for a hosting package and yearly for a domain name. Written cancellations
are required to stop billing.
How long does it take for CopperHosting to process my application and set up my account?
Accounts are setup within 24-48 hours of sign up. You will receive a welcome letter with all the account username/password/address
infomration that provides email account access, ftp access, DNS information, and other critical instructions.
Most accounts are setup within 24 hours.
Can I purchase a domain name or register for a hosting account if I am not a Copper.net customer?
Can I upgrade to a larger hosting package in the future?
Yes. If your website grows out of its current package, you can contact us for an upgrade.

Can I purchase a domain name first, and sign up for a hosting package later?
Yes. That option is available during the sign up process.
I tried to build my own webiste, but now I'm lost in the process. Can CopperHosting help?
Yes. CopperHosting offers website consultation that can assist you with design, development, troubleshooting, and uploading of your website.
We can work with any existing designs, or develop your site from scratch. We can help you determine why files are not being accepted, and
research corrective action so you can successfully transfer all of your files to the server. Contact our

Will you place any ads on my site?
No.
What domain extensions are available?
We work with the standard extensions of .com., .net, and .org
Can I select my own user account name?
Your main account username is automatically generated and cannot be changed.
You will receive the information in your welcome letter after sign up
Who do I contact in case of a billing problem?
In the event of a billing problem or to cancel your account, please email our Billing Department at

What do I do if I forgot my username and/or password?
If you can refer to your Welcome letter that you received after sign up, it will provide your username and password information.
If you cannot find your letter, send an email to
support@copperhosting.net that
includes your domain name, and your request for a Welcome letter copy. You should receive your copy within 24-48 hours.
What is my FTP username and password?
After you sign up for a hosting package, you will receive a Welcome letter via email that will have all the username, password,
and address information to immediately access and use your account. Keep this information in a safe place where you can look up
the information if necessary.
How do I cancel a CopperHosting account?
Cancellations for hosting plans or domain registration must be submitted in writing by email
(
billing@copperhosting.net), fax (740.392.5775), or letter. Include
your domain name and account email.
*NOTICE* To cancel your copper.net dial-up account, you must call the
cancellation department at 888.336.3318.
Emails will not be accepted.
What if I lost my Welcome letter and need to know my username/password information?
Send an email to
support@copperhosting.net with the requrest to resend your information.
However, if you have changed your password after your initial access with the
Welcome letter information, CopperHosting cannot look up the new password you set.
If I cancel my Copper.net dial-up service, can I keep my hosting account?
Yes. Your hosting account will not be interrupted. (For a small fee, you can even keep your Copper.net
email address after cancelling your dial-up service.)

Can CopperHosting develop my website?
YES! CopperHosting.net's professional expertise can design and develop a new website to effectively present YOU to the web audience.
We can also work with you to improve or redesign your existing site. Rates are based per hour, and we'll share with you all the

How do I upload my website to the Internet once I have it designed?
You need to transfer your files from your local computer to our CopperHosting server. This requires an FTP program.
To view further instructions, FTP tutorials, and suggestions for free FTP programs, review the information on the Support page.
All username and password information can be found in the Welcome letter that you receive after sign up.
Does CopperHosting have any suggestions for someone new to the website process?
Yes. We suggest you review the information in your Welcome letter, the online Support page, and our tips for people just
Getting Started in the process. You can also research the Internet to find free and unlimited tips, guidelines, tutorials, etc.
Email
How do I access the free webmail provided with my hosting package?
Every hosting account comes with webmail access that can be checked from any computer, at any time, from anywhere.
The site address, username, and password are provided in your welcome letter. Click on the support page to view more information.
What other programs can be used to access email?
All POP email clients can be used: Netscape mail, Outlook, Eudora, etc. (IMAP programs cannot be used.) Mail settings are in your
Welcome letter provided after signup. Use those settings and refer to your specific e-mail client's setup instructions. Click on
the Support page to view more information. (Also remember that your email can always be viewed by going to your webmail address mentioned above.)
How do I set up my mail client (such as Outlook, Eudora, etc) to view my email?
The Welcome letter provides the mail settings that you will need to check mail using a POP3 client such as Outlook Express, Eudoramail, etc.
Pop Email setup names will look like this:
POP3 Server: mail.your registered name here.com
SMTP Server: mail.your registered name here.com
Default User: admin@your registered name here.com
Use the above settings and refer to your specific email client's setup instructions
Here's the most common setup for Outlook and Outlook Express users who use Copper.net dialup: (under Tools - Accounts - Properties)
- Incoming mail (POP3): mail.your registered name here.com
- Incoming mail server account name: admin@your registered name here.com
- Incoming mail server password: _________________(given in your weldcome letter)
- There should be NO CHECKMARK showing "Log on using Secure Password Authentication"
- Outgoing mail (SMTP): mail.copper.net
- There must be a CHECKMARK showing "My server requires authentication."
- proceed into "Settings" and "Log on using..."
- Account Name/Username: your copper dial up user name. Do not include @copper.net
- Password: your copper dial up password.
- There should be NO CHECKMARK showing "Log on using Secure Password Authentication"
If you do not use Copper.net as your ISP, the outgoing mail settings will be different.
They need to reflect the settings of the ISP you use to connect to the Internet.
How can I manage my email users (add/remove/update)?
To add, delete, redirect, and perform basic administration on POP email accounts, use the Mail Manager located in your
Account Control Panel. The Welcome Letter you received after sign up has the address and password that will grant you access.
The new user can immediately begin retrieving messages using webmail address, or follow the POP3 setup procedure to use another email client

Does this mean I'll have a website once I purchase the domain name?
Not exactly. You've purchased the name at this point, but will need to design a website to be viewed.
CopperHosting has a
web design department that would be happy to work with you to develop a website.
If you do not have a website and you are designing one yourself, make sure you are familiar with the basic prinicipals of website design,
FTP transfers, and server addresses to create files that are in acceptable formats. Please read the available information for those just

Who owns the domain name once I purchase it through CopperHosting?
You own the domain name. We will assist you with the setup of your domain on our servers, but you are registered as the owner.
What's the next step after I purchase a domain?
You must have a hosting account if you want your website on the Internet. You can purchase a hosting account with CopperHosting at
the same time you sign up to purchase your domain name.
If you already have a web page, you can begin the process of transferring
your webpage files to our CopperHosting servers. After you sign up for a hosting account, you will receive critical usernames, passwords,
and login information.
If you do not have a website, you can contact our web design departmetn to have CopperHosting design and build your site. Rates are
based per hour, and we'll share with you all the shortcuts to minimize your billed time.

Can I transfer the registry of a domain name so that renewal fees are done through CopperHosting?
Yes. If you want CopperHosting to keep track of your renewal fees and keep your domain registered and active, you can transfer the registration to us.
Or you can choose to purchase hosting only and leave the domain registration where it is. Both options are available during sign up.
Hosting
How do I setup my hosting account if I've purchased my domain through CopperHosting?
You don't have to. Your domain and hosting account will be setup at the time of registration, and you will not need to change or enter any DNS
addresses. You will receive a welcome letter via email after you sign up. It will have all the username, password, and address information to
immediately access your site.
How do I setup my hosting account if I'm using an existing domain name?
If we will be hosting a domain name that you already own, you will need to update your registrar information so that your domain now points to a
CopperHosting server. These changes must be made through the original registrar. Use the login name and password provided by the original
registrar company at the time of signup to access their settings. Change the DNS addresses according to the information provided in your Welcome
letter after sign up. Click on the Support page to view more information.
Do I have to transfer the domain registry if I'm transferring a site to CopperHosting?
No. During the signup process you'll be given the option to transfer the existing registry, but it is not required. If you do not choose to
transfer your domain, your registration remains with your current registrar and you are responsible for all ongoing domain name registration
and renewal fees. Only the monthly hosting will be billed to your Copper.net account
What's the best process to transfer my website files to CopperHosting?
Make sure you have a copy of all your website files, including images, sound and video clips, and other files on your personal
computer. Use an FTP program to transfer all of your files to your new website space
What DNS should my domain name point to?
Primary DNS: ns1.ispns.net
Secondary DNS: ns2.ispns.net
Tertiary DNS: ns3.ispns.net

What is my FTP username and password?
Your username and password are included in the Welcome letter that is sent to you after signup. Chances are your username
looks something like this (admin@yourdomainname.com) and your password is the same as your Copper dialup account. If that
doesn't work, you'll have to contact CopperHosting to set up a new password.
How do I upload my files from my computer to your server?
This requires an FTP program. To view further instructions, FTP tutorials, and suggestions for free FTP programs, review the
information on the Support page. All username and password information can be found in the Welcome letter that you receive after
signup. If you are new to the process, we suggest you review our free online tips for those just getting started. The basic
steps are as follows:
1. Start your FTP client and enter your address/userID/password as provided in the Welcome letter
2. On the server side of the screen, go to the web directory (web folder) on your website
3. Delete or rename the default file called index.html
4. On the harddrive side of the screen, browse to find the web site files you've created
5. Upload your new files from the hard drive side to the server side, usually by clicking an arrow
6. Disconnect and close your FTP client
7. Go online and enter your website address to view your new pages
Why does my site say "This page under construction" when I enter my website address?
The server is still reading the index.htm file that was created when your account was set up. You need to replace that
file with your own index.htm file that you've created. For more information, please visit our Getting Started page or
the other FAQ's.
How do I enable SSI in my HTML pages?
To take advantage of Server Side Includes (SSI) in your web page, make sure the web page has the
extension .SHTML and not .HTML
Administrative Access/Control
How do I access my website control panel?
The address for your control panel is provided in your Welcome letter after signup. From the control panel you can
add or remove email accounts, change passwords, and perform basic site administration. Your site information will look
something like this:

Technical Information
Does CopperHosting.net use Unix or Windows servers?
CopperHosting.net uses only NT servers.
Do you support FrontPage extensions?
If you are using FrontPage to design and build your website, you will need your web host to have FrontPage extensions
on their server. All of our hosting packages support FrontPage 98, 2000, and 2002. Us your adminstrative username
and password to log in to your control panel. Enable FrontPage extensions under the 'Settings' tab. Refer to your
Welcome letter or our Support page for further information about the Control Panel.
Can I upload pages frequently?
Each account comes with an FTP account. You will have full access to your space via FTP 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Will my Macintosh work with my CopperHosting.net account?
Yes. Our servers use standard protocols such as FTP, POP, and HTTP that are compatible with Macintosh operating systems.
How much data transfer do you allow for my site?
Refer to the two hosting plans available to view the data transfer options.
Does CopperHosting.net offer SSI?
SSI is on all of our servers. You just need to be sure that you call your files with the .shtml extension.
What programs can be used to access email?
All POP/IMAP email clients can be used: Netscape mail, Outlook, Eudora, etc.
What DNS should my domain name point to?
Your Welcome email will detail which of our DNS servers you should point your URL to. All hosting accounts point to:
